Swimming with manatees

Posted in beach, nature, paradise with tags , , , , , , , , , , on 30/06/2011 by Walter

The manatee

The manatees are family of mermaids, marine mammals that are nearly extinguished. The name of the siren has to do with the legend of the sirens, they say, were beautiful women with  fishtail who lived in the sea. These mammals are gentle animals, which have not developed any defenses and never attack humans or other animals.

Bavaro, Dominican Republic.- Yaroslaw Mazur, a Polish photographer and experienced diver got the fright of his life when he was diving on the reefs near the coast, while enjoying the wonderful seascape, encountered a herd of strange animals he knew only in books, videos and documentaries: They were Manatees.

“Oh my God! It Was So exciting, I will never forget That day, That Was something amazing.”

Recreate the encounter with manatees has changed the life of this professional photographer. Mazur lives in New York, but since he watched the aquatic mammals has returned 19 times to Bavaro. He is responsible for water and awesome video footage of tourists interacting with these animals.

Mazur manages the company “Global Divers”, associated with Walter Frischbutter and his company responsible for underwater tours. The German businessman has a diving school and works with seven local resorts. Frischbutter speaks five languages.

Walter, who observed manatees for the first time in 2007, does not hide the excitement when talking about this:

“Swimming with manatees is one of the main aquatic activities that attract tourists in Bavaro. They touch these mammals with their hands, swim and play with them. Have fun under the water like children, without any malice. Tourists will scratch their belly and they fall asleep. That’s worth seeing. It is an experience that no human being can forget.

The diving area is called “Butane” and is located 5 minutes from the Bavaro beach coast. There are corals, caves and grass eaten by manatees. Tourists are transported in three separate boats. If you do not have a diving license, before activity you receive a special training. The entire process is supervised by professional divers. The maximum depth where the manatees are found is twenty feet. The visit of the Mammals in this part of the coast usually occur twice a year and they stay several weeks in the area.

Walter Brandle, tourism entrepreneur, believes that the presence of manatees that interact with tourists “is the best thing what happen to Bavaro. I think we are entering a new stage of sustainable tourism in the Punta Cana/Bavaro area. We never had seen anything like that. It is simply great, exciting, an indescribable look of innocence of these mammals playing with humans in an atmosphere of harmony and cordiality. These are things that you cannot see every day.

Mermaid, Siren or Manatee?

In the ocean near Hispaniola in 1493, Christopher Columbus—probably glimpsing a manatee—reported seeing three mermaids but said they were “not as pretty as they are depicted, for somehow in the face they look like men.

The mermaid La sirèn is a powerful water spirit popular in the Caribbean Islands and parts of the Americas. Like European mermaids, and the African mermaid water spirit Mami Wata, La sirèn holds a mirror to admire herself and a comb for her long, straight hair. La sirèn’s underwater world is known as “the back of the mirror,” and her mirror is a symbol of the boundary between the two worlds. Followers of La sirèn say she takes them below the water to her world, and they return with new powers. Some women become Vodou priestesses this way.

The story of La sirèn blends African and European mermaid stories with Caribbean culture. When African slaves were brought to the Caribbean, they took their stories with them. In Haiti, La sirèn is part of the Vodou tradition, and her followers appeal to her for help in Vodou ceremonies, where the mermaid’s spirit may enter the body of a female follower and bring good luck with work, health, money and love.

The mermaid La sirèn is one of three powerful female water spirits, sometimes considered sisters, who are honored in shrines like the one pictured here. One sister is cool, calm and seductive. The other is hot, passionate, angry and strong. La sirèn’s personality is a blend of these opposites. Together, they validate a wide range of temperaments for women.

woody-alan-on-the-beachthe beach – for to relax, enjoy and feel free

Just a “day at the beach”, – this is one of the most desired destinations for travelers from all over the world.

For to find peace and entertainment, for to enjoy, relax and feel free from daily stress …….. one of the last refuges for to recreate with friends and family, for to stay in harmony with nature and people and recuperate lost energies ……

un-bano-en-la-playa1

Relaxing in nature at beautiful and pristine beaches ……..

nudist-beach-club1

People visit a nude beach because they see no reason to wear clothing when taking part in water activities or sunning, or who enjoy being nude or partially nude.

classic-nudist-beach2

Nude beaches first became popular in the 1950s along the French coastand have since spread around the world, though they are still few and far between. Some nude beaches are part of a larger nude area, such as the Cap d’Agde area. Most beaches in Denmarkand all beaches in Norway are clothing optional.

sun-bathing-on-the-beach

If you feel the need for a truly naked de-stress, visit for swimming and sunbathing a nude beach. This kind of relaxed beaches you can find all over the world. For example in China the last nude beach that received widespread publicity in the media was actually an invention of forward-thinking Hangzhou tourism officials.

Some samples of the best places where nudism is in:

  • Praia do Pinho Balneario Camboriu, Santa Catarina, Brazil.

Praia do Pinho Balneario Camboriu, Santa Catarina, Brazil; where the motto is ¨Clothing is not an option¨. Pinho beach is considered the first and prettiest Brazilian naturalist beach and the fifth in the world. Beyond that, it’s also recognized for its natural beauties and the life philosophy of those who frequent the beach. Pinho Beach counts on a Touristy Complex where the norms of conduct for visitors of the beach or guests of the Inns value the ethics, the respect, the harmony, the freedom and the security of those who frequent the beach. In its infrastructure there are: inns, chalets, cabins, restaurants, camping sites with capacity for 200 booths and broad parking for the visitors.

  • Red Sand Beach,Matala, Crete

Red Sand Beach, Matala, Crete – ¨Fabulous place to swim, relax & get a full tan!¨   The reputation of the Greek island nudist beaches gained momentum when the 60 hippie let it blocks all outside on the South coast of Crete. Beach resorts like Matala, Sougia and Prevali drew the crowd of “free love” which included Cat Stevens and Joni Mitchell. Some only wearing flowers in hair and nothing else, continued fashion flower power and “finding themselves” as became each year to vacation in Crete and Greek Islands.
Today there are several nudist beaches in the Greek island of Crete, where naturistas still “free textile” naturist beaches prefer. Officially, nudist bathing is not allowed anywhere on Greece and the Greek Islands, but turns blind eye to discreet Nudism.

  • Wreck Beach is Vancouver’s famous nudist beach. Protected from prying eyes by a steep cliff and a descent of nearly 500 wooden steps, Vancouverites have been going there for decades to get an all-over tan and just enjoy its unique vibe. In good weather, you may find vendors selling food, drinks, sunscreen, exotic clothing, and more on the beach. In poorer weather, or early in the day, you may find it empty except fo the occasional runner. And save the sexual acts for the privacy of your hotel room or you could be arrested. ¨Just be cool, drop your clothes and you’ll have a great time¨.

  • Cap d'Agde in southern France.

Cap d’Agde in southern France. The naturist village is certainly one of the strangest places in Europe, with everyday activities in the nude. – ¨The atmosphere is always fun and friendly – you never felt concern or worry¨.

Pool Bar Hedonism II, Negril, Jamaica

  • Hedonism II is a vacation resorts in Negril, Jamaica. The resort has areas reserved for naturism/nudism and is known for liberal sexual, drug, and alcohol attitudes; no children are allowed. – ¨… get naked, make some friends … all about discovering yourself and being free¨.

Dolphins in captivity

Posted in environment, liberty, nature, Uncategorized on 17/06/2010 by Walter

Some known facts about Dolphins facing a life of captivity and sadness as permanent residents of Marine Parks or Underwater Resorts:

53% of those dolphins who survive the violent capture die within 90 days.

The average life span of a dolphin in the wild is 45 years; yet half of all captured dolphins die within  their first two years of captivity. Every seven years, half of all dolphins in captivity die from capture shock, pneumonia, intestinal disease, ulcers, chlorine poisoning, and other stress-related illnesses. Some may die due to stress while transport. To the captive dolphin industry, these facts are accepted as routine operating expenses.

In many tanks the water is full of chemicals as well as bacteria, causing many health problems in dolphins including blindness.

When a baby dolphin is born in captivity, the news is usually kept secret until the calf shows signs of survival. Although marine mammals do breed in captivity, the birth rate is not nearly as successful as the one in the wild, with high infant mortality rates.

Wild dolphins can swim 40 to 100 miles per day – in pools they go around in circles. Dolphins are predators of fish and spend up to half of their time in the wild hunting for food. Supplying dead fish results in less exercise and lack of mental stimulation, thus causing boredom.

Many marine parks subject their mammals to hunger so they will perform for their food. Jumping through hoops, tailwalking and playing ball are trained behaviors that do not occur in the wild. Confined animals who abuse themselves (banging their heads against the walls) are creating stimuli which their environment cannot supply. Dolphins in captivity tend to develop stereotypical behaviors (swimming in a repetitive circle pattern, with eyes closed and in silence) because of boredom and confinement.

This is equivalent to the swaying and pacing of primates, lions, tigers and bears confined in cages.

a day trip to paradise

We operate the catamaran Sonia from a private dock in Miches.

a cozy day-trip by catamaran to enjoy paradise:

Miches – Media Luna – Cayo Levantado – Miches

Picnic in Media Luna, a small sand island in the middle of Samana bay.

From Miches we depart with the “motor-catamaran Sonia“, after one hour we make the first stop in “Media Luna“, a sand shoal in the middle of the Bay of Samana. Its low tide and we can leave the catamaran to take a drink and prepare a quick breakfast picnic on the small sandy island. A large coral reef surrounding the sandbank. Some of us take the snorkeling equipment for to explore the colorful underwater world. After some more Margaritas we took off in direction Cayo Levantado, the Bacardi dream island.

"Cayo Levantado", the Bacardi dream island in the bay of Samana.

Here await us a dream beach and a fine lunch in the beach restaurant. The sand there is so white and the turquoise waters crystal clear, its excellent for swimming and snorkeling. After lunch we have some time to swim or relax on the beach. Known for its fantastic beach where the bacardi commercial was filmed, this small island in the Samana Bay is the stuff of legends, apparently linked to bounty hunters and treasure.

As conclusion, on the way back to Miches more than 15 minutes we were accompanied by a group of jumping dolphins. Today we learned that paradise is reality, we found it in the bay of Samana …….

Thanks to the staff of “Rancho La Cueva” for this unforgettable day in the Dominican east coast!

Children are the hope of the world.

The girl who silenced the members of the UN.

severn-suzukiPreviously to his 10 years of age Severn Suzuki founded with some other children in the city of Vancouver in Canada a group of environmental activists named ECO – Environmental Children Organization.

On June 3, 1992 the 12 years old girl moved with a group of children from her environmental group to Brazil for to assist the Conference of Environment and Development, “The Earth Summit “ held by the UN in Rio de Janeiro.

Once there she made a speech of 6:32 minutes. Every word in his speech puts goose bumps … each of us must shoulder its responsibility towards what is happening in every corner of the world …

Even when we have more than enough we are afraid of losing part of our wealth and afraid to share with those who have less ….

we have crises, but not only financial!

no more choice for to choose?

Traditional and religious values seem honorable, particularly for the family, but something has gone out of control. There is a mix of crime, corruption, mafia, supremacy, racism, fundamentalism, and most importantly punishment. To be owned and watched, to feel a sense of betrayal in every success, that is the punishment. And to be framed with every form of deception. After all, everyone else is sacrificing for a system which couldn’t allow anyone to go free. Put all those negatives with modern technology, and we have crises, and not only financial.

Although nothing is ever quite as simple as we would like it to be. In today’s world of globalization no one can lay the rules down.

future-revolution-robotWe exaggerated an economic system of open market made for to attend the exigences of a ruling class. They consumed more than they could suck out of a system where every day it will be more difficult to produce or to steel enough for to satisfy their needs. The domesticated mass of people lost increasingly their ability to cover this deficit. Colonialism and imperialism empires are substituted every day more by an anonymous world domination using technological and financial mechanism for to control nations and people.

Ban the internet or have a revolution

But something escaped and impulsed crisis in all aspects of organized life. Every day its more difficult to maintain the control of information, to defend predefined histories or political lies against the upcoming truth. Internet is converting more and more to an unlimited source of information and communication for everybody and all over the world. The well known tools like education systems, television and newspapers for to manipulate generations of citizens in our  industrialized civilizations have become unusable and are shaken in their principles. All the insular hubris built up over centuries if not millenniums, now unravels within seconds.

A spiritual revolution would be far better than a political one. It is clear that our post world war system is breaking down. Maybe there will be a revolution without the internet as well and truth will probably win on the end.

Fear is Hope … when empires fall, they gladly give up their dependencies! but when a new order will be established it will be better? … and for whom?

Or its only another hope, in a pack of lies?

The “dolphin therapy” in the Amazon or the curative effects of the pink dolphin

the Pink Dolphins of the Rainforest

pinkdolphinThe Pink Dolphin is an amazing mammal, which lives in the Amazon River and has adapted overtime to survive in fresh water. This animal looks almost like the gray dolphin, but there are differences. Their measures can reach up to 2.5 meters long, although males are generally larger. The color of its body is pale pink, instead of having a dorsal fin like the gray dolphin, it has a hump on its back. The Pink Dolphin’s tale is bigger and it has 2 flippers that look like big leaves, their neck is kind of long and his head has a little hump in the forehead. This animal has tiny eyes and his beak is long and has hairs on top. The Pink Dolphin can turn its head 180 degrees, all the way around since it has an unfused vertebrae. It weighs approximately 90 kilograms. The Pink Dolphin got its amazing pink color from the kind of water it lives in, and the kind of food it eats.

The dolphin therapy is a powerful method for the physical and emotional sanitation, where the dolphins play a key role in the treatment of multiple disorders. The dolphins are animals docile, intelligent and highly effective therapy for body and spirit. The dolphins can help people with physical and emotional disorders, in various ways, as the dolphin emits ultrasonic waves of various types, which circulate throughout the body of the person treated and operate beneficially on the nervous system.

amazonas-efectos-curativos-delfin-rosado

Manaus (Brazil), 12 November 2008 (EFE) .- The Pink Dolphin’s Therapy Center, located at the Ariau river a few kilometers from Manaus, is the only one of the world that takes its space in the natural healing powers of this animal that lives in the Amazon.

In addition to its sympathy and its tourist pull, the pink dolphin contains in his brain a powerful ultrasound system that makes it a natural complement to alleviate problems from leukemia to depression or psychomotoric faults.

The Therapeutic Center, led by Brazilian veterinarian Igor Simões, hosts since 2005 treatments based on interaction with this animal, whose brain ultrasound system is greater than that of its marine counterpart.

The “pink buttons,” as they call them in Brazil, with their little and almost useless eyes, compensates their visual lack with a large skull that contains an ultrasonic generator. “When in contact with people, the pink dolphin is capable for to create a ultrasound vision for to localize quickly where your problem.”

motherwithbabyThey localize the problem, “achieving a balance in the body which generate endorphins for to stimulate the body, so they can improve the functioning of glands, the secretion of hormones or blood flow.”

The pink dolphin, also complements with their ultrasound in a natural way chemotherapy and radiotherapy for cancer patients, in addition to stimulating the need for communication in children with problems of socialization and accelerate learning process in cases of Down syndrome, achieving results between two and ten times faster.

“Bigger the problem, with more intensity the dolphins identify to the person.” These treatments achieve prosperity in their own personality in a form which let them “learn” to be more effective.

According to the Water Thought Foundation, one of the most notorious capacities of this dolphins is their ability to improve the interhemispheric synchronization, which activate dormant areas of the brain which unlock trauma, rise the self esteem and in addition activates the immune system of the patient.

The therapeutic effect “is noted from the first day,” although the therapy can last up to three years, in sessions of two hours.

But before science there was a native myth who explain the connection of the pink dolphin with the body of the man, according to which the animal became a man at night and fertilize the women.

slaughtery of Dolphins in Denmark

whaling_in_the_faroe_islands

bulk of dolphins been killed in Denmark

Though it may seem unbelievable, but even today this brutal, dantesque and bloody slaughter of dolphins are still carried out each year in the Faroe Islands which belong to Denmark. A country supposedly “civilized” and belonging to the European Union. For many it is unknown this attack to life, to the sensitivity and to everything. In this bloody slaughter involving the young men to show entering adulthood (!). Is absolutely incredible that there is nothing to prevent this barbaric act that is committed against the pilot whales, a dolphin that has the intelligent approach to people out of pure curiosity.

calderons-11I live on the mid north coast of NSW, Australia and every day, before winter we see these beautiful creatures, passing by to go north to have their babies and at the moment they are traveling south with their babies. W e can see this extraordinary site numerous times almost everyday at this time of the year and although we can see it everyday we all still get so excited about the site, that is every human being in our country who see’s this wonderful sight. So how can human being on the other side of the world be so opposite and ruthlessly kill these wonderful creatures. I wonder if these cruel disgusting people saw how much we appreciate the sight of these wonderful animals playing with their babies just off our beaches.

regards Wendy

The following images belong to a rite of passage to begin to be “man” who even today takes place in some parts of Denmark, a country of the European Union. The belief on the part of men that animals are things of use and discard is a relic of a haggard design that makes it as being for which purpose the earth was created (read homocentrism). It makes me impossible to justify this kind of torture.

In Yahoo answers someone wrote the following text for to justify this dantesc spectacle:

  1. They’re not dolphins, they’re whales.
  2. It’s not happening in Denmark, it’s happening in the Faroe Islands, an autonomous island with its own government.
  3. The whales they’re hunting is not an endangered species.
  4. This has been going on for hundreds of years, and it is not just some mindless slaughter, they eat the whales they kill. Saying this is wrong is just like saying eating hamburgers is wrong. I bet you more cows are killed for their meat than whales. Just because you don’t see it does not mean that it doesn’t happen.

Very nice, he told that this is not a slaughtering, – this is hunting!

Too he mentioned that Denmark don’t be related to the Faroe islands and that cows are wild and free living animals!

The  Japanese dolphin slaughters

dolphins-beink-killed-in-japonEvery winter, thousands of dolphins are confined and brutally killed in small towns across Japan. Animal advocates and environmentalists considers this barbaric and condemns the slaughter. Fishermen often injure a few captives by spear thrust or knife slash to retain the group since dolphins never abandon injured family members. The water turns red and the air is filled with their agonising screams. They are then dragged to the slaughter place and their throats slashed and left to die. Dolphin meat are later marketed and often disguised as whale meat.

“Cove” is a doc about the ongoing covert slaughter of dolphins in Taiji, Japan

Sundance dolphin doc is really action thriller!

This documentary is really an action thriller whose filmmakers put themselves in great peril to document these brutal murders for the world to see. They also expose how dolphin meat, which is dangerously high in mercury content, is being sold to consumers in Japan under other names and has even been purchased by schools to be served in children’s lunches.

“Cove” is directed by Louie Psihoyos and the goals of this film were not only to make people aware that this secret slaughter of dolphins is going on in Japan, but also to make it known how highly toxic dolphin meat is.

“They eat at the same level as humans at the very top of the food chain,” Louie Psihoyos said. “Everything that human beings consume eventually ends up in the oceans — especially fossil fuels. The burning of coal is the number one contributor to the rise of mercury in the environment. There’s a cost to that — we’re degrading the oceans (and) diminishing the environment for future generations to enjoy. I used to eat seafood and I can’t eat large seafood anymore. I have mercury poisoning at 23 parts per million. High is five parts per million. We’re trying to alert people to what’s going on here.”

In the name of humanity I hope that someone in Japon, Denmark or everywhere in the world will have enough authority for to stop this bloody tradition!

fuel for the passion

To be attractive to the couple is the primary fuel for the passion and desire, but the most powerful sexual organ is the brain. The imagination to keep alive the flame, sensuality and eroticism not just come from a good body. A good topic of conversation after making love, even a good dose of humor is more important than sex itself.

Its more important to look in the same direction and walk hand in hand towards; find common objectives in spiritual development, nurturing the mind and soul, learning to become better people together, but without losing the individual personality.
